bu_check_files - Verify the file integrity of backupuser(1) backups

bu_check_files [-u] [-d BACKUP]
bu_check_files etc

The bu_check_files utility is used to verify the integrity of backups created with backupuser(1). The script is meant to be copied to the location of the backups on the external storage device. When run, it will generate the reportfile ${USER}_report, which can then be compared with the reportfile on the original medium of creation.

If upon invocation, "etc" is passed as an argument, then bu_check_files generates a reportfile for backups made of the /etc directory.

Verify the integrity of our 2017 backups:

cp /usr/local/bin/bu_check_files /path/to/external/storage
/path/to/external/storage/bu_check_files
diff /path/to/external/storage/user_report ~/backups/2017/user_report

Please report when found.
